scale scape studio is a personal project by KTAK, working across graphic design, product design, and spatial design — shifting between scales.
The name is a way of articulating a habit of mind I rely on when making things.
Scape isn't just the scenery around me — it's also the landscape inside me, the space where thought and creation happen. Scale is the movement between them: shifting constantly between micro and macro, not just visually, but conceptually.
Within this movement, I try to move as freely as possible — swapping micro for macro, turning things inside out, letting my viewpoint shift in whatever direction it wants.
Do that long enough, and fixed ideas start to loosen their grip. Slowly, a new scape comes into view — one I couldn't see before.
Luminous Shadows
I collect these glass fragments on slow walks along the coastline. I don't look for the smooth, rounded sea glass. I'm drawn instead to fragments with irregular shapes — pieces that might look imperfect at first glance, their texture shaped by the endless rhythm of the tides.
I photograph them in the low, angled light of winter. When light hits a fragment, it casts a luminous shadow, its form unique and impossible to predict from the fragment's original shape. And within that shadow, scratches etched into the glass's surface over time emerge as a texture of light.
It's a way of drawing out another side of beauty that was already hiding within debris cast off on the shore.
